Octomom! the Musical: Where to from here?

TMZ covered the show last week and revealed our need for a bigger venue
after our sold out 10 week run at The Fake Gallery in East Hollywood.

We're actually in discussions with a number of people for the show
to continue to run! Stay tuned.

The musical based on OctoMom Nadya Suleman is getting bigger than her onetime freakishly ginormous stomach -- so big, in fact, the show is officially moving to a bigger stage.

Whittier Daily covers Chris Voltaire's new movie!

By Ben Baeder, Staff Writer
Posted: 08/18/2009 05:30:48 PM PDT

WHITTIER - The man who made "Octomom! The Mu$ical" can't seem to get enough of Whittier.

Chris Voltaire is now acting in "The Apocalypse ... According to Doris," part of which was filmed Monday night in a house at Painter Avenue and Beverly Boulevard.

The independent film, directed by Victor Goss, is about a mysterious woman who predicts earthquakes. She attracts a group of "lost souls" who end up following her and dealing with what they think is the end of the world, Voltaire said.

He plays an ill pastor who steals his congregation's money and seeks out Doris for help.

Voltaire, who lives in Los Angeles, had never really heard of Whittier before Nadya Suleman had her now famous octuplets in
Whittier Octuplets
More stories about "Octomom" Nadya Suleman and her Whittier octuplets.

"I was introduced to Whittier, I would say, through her," he said. "To be honest, I was really blown away by how beautiful Whittier was."

"Octomom! The Mu$ical" is a pop culture spoof about Suleman, Bernie Madoff and the crashing economy. It's been running for a month at the Fake Gallery on Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles, and has sold out nearly every night, Voltaire said.

The run was supposed to finish last week, but Voltaire is adding more shows to meet demand, he said.

Staff at RadarOnline, a gossip Web site that paid Suleman for interviews, have been "hounding" Voltaire to let the site film the musical.

"It's really kind of weird," he said.

He is hoping Suleman will eventually attend the show, or maybe do a little cameo, he said.

"I wish she wouldn't take herself so seriously," he said.

He also wants to somehow incorporate Jon & Kate (of Plus 8 fame) into the act, he said.
His next goal is to bring the musical to Whittier, he said.

Octomom Gives Birth to New Musical

The irony surrounding the production of director and playwright Chris Voltaire’s new Octomom: The Musical is so thick you could swaddle octuplets with it. His musical about the rise to fame of Octomom Nadya Suleman is framed as criticism of our national fascination with celebrity and craziness. Apparently, no one told him that producing media to criticize a media obsession only creates more media to feed that obsession. On top of that, Voltaire has to know that just having “Octomom” in the title of his show is going to snag attention, which means his show is riding the coat tails of the very celebrity it’s critiquing.

GOLOSANGELES Review for Octomom Musical

Octomom the Musical at the Fake - No Fake
Sunday July 19, 2009
There were plenty of belly laughs last night at the opening of Octomom the Musical, an irreverent parody of the icons of American excess who have consumed the media and flattened the economy for the last couple years. The production manages to poke fun at Bernie Madoff, greedy mortgage companies, and of course the Octomom, in hysterical song and dance numbers that are so clever and witty that they don't even seem mean-spirited. It is non-stop craziness for the entire 62 minutes.

The production is the brain child of Chris Voltaire, who wrote the book and lyrics, produced and directed the musical. He also plays Octomom's infatuated fertility doctor and a TMZ reporter in the show. Rachael Lawrence's music, ranging from tango to rap, is toe tapping and catchy. Dean McFlicker's over-the-top cornball choreography is just too fun. I can see the Octo-Dance joining the Time Warp as a cult classic.

Octomom the MusicalThe spot-on cast is led by Molly McCook as Octo, John Combs (former Wall Street Securities Banker) as Bernie and Dinora Walcott as the narrator "Real." Voltaire makes a perfectly smarmy conflicted fertility specialist. Lynette Li is strangely convincing as Octo's fed-up mom. Blake Hogue morphs seamlessly from sleazy real estate deal-maker Century to con artist Ponzi. Alexandra Holzman and Stu Barron round out the strong cast as gullible buyers and chorus members.

Octomom the Musical is playing for 5 Saturday nights at the Fake Gallery in Hollywood. It's fun to see it in such an intimate space, but that means tickets are limited. So if you're planning on being in town this month and want to get in to see this show, get your tickets soon.

Conan O' Brien cracks on the Octo-Musical

Is Octomom trying to contact Octomom the Musical?

While we're not exactly sure who the inquisitive parties have been,
the Octomom the Musical production office has received a handful of phone calls from a particular 562 area code, pretending to be a reporter for a fictitious radio news network. While we're routinely cordial with all press inquiries, as soon as we catch on a representative is not who they say they are, we're willing to play along to see where it goes. As we gathered for another pre-production meeting, the idea surfaced amongst us as to whether we've been receiving contact from the other side...the Orange side... if you catch our drift.

Octomom The Musical Updates

The Octomom Musical
30-Apr-2009
Written by: Alyssa Marcus

Another reason for her to be in the media.

It’s safe to say that at this point, most people want Nadya Suleman, aka Octomom, to just go away. Unfortunately, this won’t be happening anytime soon. Cabaret Voltaire in Los Angeles is currently casting the role of Suleman for “Octomom the Musical,” according to Entertainment Weekly.

Cabaret Voltaire producer Chris Voltaire told EW that the show will be “a fast-paced musical comedy
about the unprecedented times America is in – with Octo as the main symbol, since she is the icon du jour… there will definitely be sing-along’s.”

In terms of the actress that Voltaire is looking for to fill the position, he wants someone who “is not coming in and pre-judging Octo… She’s trying to help the country in the only ways she knows how. She’s an au naturel stimulus package!”

MSNBC reported that auditions are being held at Bang Comedy Studio on Tuesday. The show will run for ten weeks starting June 19.
